Show Up & Show Out: Your Vote Matters!
Presenters: AJ Starling, Davidson County Election Commission
Description: During this interactive workshop participants will learn about the process for registering to vote in Nashville. We will discuss voter suppression and how it can affect your vote in 2020. Participants in this workshop will have a hands-on, on-site demonstration of the new voting machine, an opportunity to learn more about the elected positions that will be on the ballot in 2020, and important voting dates in March, August and November 2020. On site voter registration will also be available.
Transforming Vision into Action—a 2-part Workshop
Part 1 – Organizing Your Activism
Presenters: Rasheedat Fetuga, Gideon’s Army
Description: During this interactive workshop attendees will learn the fundamentals of motivating themselves and others for action. We will discuss how to go beyond simply talking about social justice to creating a plan of action. Learn how social media plays a role in social activism. Part 2 workshop “Funding Your Movement” is recommended.
Part 2 – Funding Your Movement
Presenters: Lauren Fitzgerald, Metro Arts Commission & Youth Presenter
Description: During this interactive workshop attendees will discover innovative techniques for generating and receiving funding to build their movement. We will discuss fostering relationships and creativity, and their relevance in obtaining funding. Group activities will guide attendees to envision a movement and developing strategies to fund it.
Know Your Rights?
Presenter: Sheila Calloway, Juvenile Court Judge
Description: In this interactive workshop you will learn about your rights in your schools, if you are stopped by the police in your community, and your rights within juvenile court. Learn the history of how the movement that created your rights began, and where we go from here in Civil Rights and Social Justice!
Doing It For The Culture: The Importance of Art In Activism
Presenters: DJ Eno and his team
Description: During this interactive workshop youth will explore their own personal stories of activism, peaceful protests, and/or socio-political experiences. Playlists will be curated, and our professional DJ will mix and share during their workshop, during The All Arts Showcase and on stage during the MLK Day Youth Rally on MLK day Monday January 20, 2019
